JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a dynamic and high-energy Controller. The candidate will have a critical role establishing and leading the company’s accounting function. The best candidate for this full-time position has a high sense of urgency, outstanding time management skills, and displays exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hands-on responsibility for day-to-day accounting operations in collaboration with internal team and outside accounting consultants
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly close and financial statements, including all account reconciliations and journal entries in accordance with US GAAP
  • Generate quarterly financial reports and other updates for investors and other stakeholders
  • Manage annual audit process and facilitate audit committee communications
  • Assist with (or lead) development of technical accounting memos and 409A valuations
  • Oversee accounts payable process, including proper coding/recording and timely payment
  • Manage cash and investments to optimize returns while ensuring working capital availability
  • Coordinate with brokers on D&O, property/casualty, and workers’ comp insurance
  • Coordinate with tax accountants on timely completion of annual filings; manage filings for city, state, and federal tax credits and Delaware franchise taxes
  • Collaborate with internal team on financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, short- and long-term forecasting, and budget vs. actual analysis
  • Evaluate and potentially implement new ERP system
  • Support financings as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related subject; CPA strongly desired
  • 5+ years of operational accounting experience
  • Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry and Big Four experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks and other finance/accounting-related systems
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and compliance
  • Proven team player and the ability to collaborate
  • Flexible with high bandwidth — capable of integrating into a dynamic start-up and adding value across multiple areas of Kallyope’s operations
